Writing a music review is an interesting way of making money. This is because it allows you to be one of the very first people to listen to new music before it is ever released.
Who will pay me to review music?
The most popular websites for this are as follows:
On the other hand, there are other opportunities to review products and services too such as fashion/clothing, mobile phone accessories and commercials.
How does it work?
You listen, rate the track out of ten, put your thoughts down in words and then submit your review. Also, your written response will need to break through a certain word count in order for them to approve it.
You don’t have to wait until the song has finished, you can start writing your review while you’re listening to the music. It’s mandatory to listen to the track in its entirety or at least most of it (over 90 seconds).
Remember to take note of every aspect of the music. This includes lyrics, vocalization, instrumentals, rhythm, tone etc.
You will often be referred to as a music reviewer or scout. There are also internet radio stations that pay you a small amount to listen.
How will I get paid?
Most sites let you redeem amazon gift cards or through PayPal. On the contrary, the pay isn’t that impressive so you will need to hear a lot of music in order to build up your earnings.
Can I increase my earnings?
You will roughly earn around 2p-50p per review depending on your reputation and who you’re working for. It’s likely that you will be graded as a reviewer so if you produce good work then your reputation will grow. This won’t go unrewarded as the best reviewers usually make more money.
You can achieve this by going into great detail in your feedback and also making sure your spelling and grammar is up to scratch.
Some paid music reviewing sites run a referral program. This means that you will earn a small amount of cash as a thank you for each successful referral.
How old do I need to be to take part?
These sites are great for very young people to make money because some organisations allow people as young as 13 to take part.
What are the benefits of doing this?
Apart from the financial incentive, it’s a great way of discovering new bands and then supporting them with your feedback.
What kind of music will I be able to listen to?
There are thousands of tracks available to be reviewed by people like you. You should be targeted with music that you like based on what your profile tells them so be sure mention artists and genres that you enjoy when filling in that part.
Why is there a demand for this?
The music that you review could produced by small, independent/unsigned artists or big name record companies. This is a really useful way for musicians to advertise their music as well as improve it.
Your ratings go towards helping musicians and brands make better decisions. Your reviews not only benefit the artists, they also help people like buyers, merchandisers, consumers, producers, designers and executives.
Can I do this using a mobile device?
You might find that some of these companies have apps available on the app store and google play so that you can participate on the go.
Any other advice?
Your reviews can’t be too similar to previous reviews you have done in the past. For this reason, consider being original and using new words and phrases. In addition, you should ideally listening to the tracks using headphones which is how they are meant to be heard at their best. The higher quality, the better.
I recommend you check out my review of the Cewaal Pro Headset if you are thinking of purchasing headphones for this work.
