Our Goals for 2023 Part 3: Web Design & Setting Up Shop

There are plenty of administrative tasks and other neglected areas I need to tend to in 2023. This generally covers the more obscure parts of running a website like:

  • eCommerce
  • domain name renewal
  • web hosting
  • changing web themes

These elements aren’t typically so obvious to everyone on the surface. This makes me think that I should focus on these goals with a little more intensity.

Domain & Web Hosting

I recently renewed both my domain name and web hosting for just one year due to money issues. I would ideally like to extend these packages for a few more years. Preferably, I want to get a good, affordable deal (even if this means the hassle of switching companies).

Writing my first ebook

If I have the time next year, I also want to begin writing a non-fiction, self-help ebook. After this is complete, I can eventually publish and sell it on the website. I’m not exactly sure what the topic of the publication will be about yet. I know for certain that I don’t want to cover something I’ve already written about on here.

I imagine it will be something a little different from what myself and the community are used to. This doesn’t mean to say that it won’t be helpful though. However, I do have mounting responsibilities with the rest of the site. For this reason, it might be something that I will have to put on stand-by until the year after next.

Opening a store

If I did go through with this, the book would essentially be my first product. Specifically, it would be the first item for sale if I were to open up an eCommerce store on the website. I have a few years of experience as an eBay seller so I think I could handle this without that much trouble.

If this goes well then I could go on to introduce customized merchandise for sale. Although, this probably won’t happen until further down the line. It would also depend a lot on demand too. I may need to hold off until our web traffic has significantly increased.

Redesigning the site

One of my longstanding goals that I have procrastinated over is to completely redesign our home page. I plan to do this by installing a new web theme to replace the free onepress theme I’m using right now.

I am particularly interested in purchasing the divi web theme. It is apparently highly customizable and I’ve also heard a lot of good word of mouth about it from others.

If I’m being honest, I can’t see this redesign being completed in 2023. Although, that doesn’t mean I can’t tweak a few things. I will try to make the web design a little more pleasant to look at with the tools that are currently available to me.

At the moment, the website is a little old fashioned by today’s standard. I think we can do a few things to change that without spending too much money. Maybe I could hire a freelancer from Fiverr to help me out with that.

Goals aren’t always easy to hit especially if you set your expectations too high within a short time frame. However, it’s still important to be optimistic. I will continue working towards the realistic future I want for myself and the business.

Additionally, I will definitely be keeping this in mind as we enter the new year. Are you happy with how the website looks at the moment? What would you like to see for sale if I did open up a shop?
