At first glance, a remote call center job might seem ideal for a stay-at-home parent. You might be under the impression that you can talk to callers whilst keeping a close eye on your kids at the same time. How hard can it be? I can tell you right now that it is definitely not that simple.

A call center operator job isn’t always something that you can leisurely lump together with other important tasks like childcare.

A lot of the time, this job requires your complete attention and focus. You need to give it your all in order to fully satisfy customers. A call center work environment isn’t great for children.

I know all this because I have done this kind of work in the past. Let’s take a deeper look into what call center work involves. We can also find out whether or not it would be suitable for a parent caring for a child.

Can I do remote call center work and also care for children?

How do I look after children and work a call center job? You can try to do it, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that you should. It almost feels like trying to keep fifty plates spinning all at the same time.

Call center work requires you to be focused on the job for most of the day. It’s not easy. You will be dealing with complicated customer issues throughout the day with little downtime.

This can put a spanner in the works if you thought that you could juggle working at home and childcare. Working a virtual call center job and looking after the kids all at the same time is a recipe for disaster.

Will call center work prevent me from doing childcare tasks?

Obviously, for children, you will need time for:

  • feeding
  • playing
  • exercise
  • hygiene routines

These things can’t really be multi-tasked together with a virtual call center job, more often than not.

Clearly, you won’t be able to do any outdoor activities with your children while working. It is yet another negative. This is unless you feel like dragging your laptop and headset out to the local park.

Is a part-time remote call center job suitable for parents?

Is there any call center work near me? This isn’t really the type of job you can do on the side with kids running circles around you at home.

However, I’m sure you can definitely make it work with childcare on a part-time basis. It would be fine when your kids are elsewhere and you aren’t responsible for their care.

Part-time call center work from home is ideal for parents as it gives them more flexibility.

Should parents try a standard call center agent job instead?

You might be better off going for conventional call center job opportunities outside the home. Preferably, a position that offers flexible working hours.

This way, you can draw a definitive line in the sand when it comes to separating work from childcare. Also, you won’t have to worry about doing two things at once.

Alternatively, you could even try taking paid surveys online from home. This is pretty easy work that anyone can do and should fit in well with childcare responsibilities.

One of the better and more reliable survey websites I’ve come across is branded surveys. This might be a good place for you to start if you want to make money.

Is a virtual call center job from home flexible for parents?

You can mostly choose when you want to work with a home-based call center job. This means you can schedule your working hours around your children if you want to.

For instance, you can work while your kids are at school or are otherwise occupied. You can also choose to take time off when you really need to be present with your kids.

This way you aren’t distracted while working and you can conveniently clock out when you need to.

How detail-orientated is home-based call center work?

Why can’t I do call center work and look after children? I know from experience that call center duties require you to get into the nitty-gritty of the customer’s problem. You need to give it your complete concentration.

For this reason, you can’t really do this type of work half-heartedly while keeping your kids entertained. It’s really too much for anyone to handle.

As you probably know, children require lots of attention. Remote call center work simply doesn’t give you the leeway to facilitate this.

If you are looking after kids while trying to perform call center responsibilities from home then it can easily lead to neglect. This neglect and lack of supervision could then create unpleasant situations.

These scenarios could even potentially turn dangerous for your children. It may not be worth the risk, in my opinion.

Is childcare & call center work easier with both parents?

If you are in a two-parent household, you could have one parent working while the other one is in charge of childcare. This should take a load off your shoulders.

As we’ve explored, childcare and remote call center work aren’t really two tasks that you can do simultaneously. Although, parents could make it work part-time. This is true as long as they aren’t doing both things at the same time.

Your mind shouldn’t be in two different places when it comes to the safety and happiness of children.

We can learn that looking after children is doable if you choose to work a part-time call center job. It also helps if the other parent can provide assistance with childcare.

We know that home-based call center work will prevent you from doing specific childcare activities as well.

Are there any call center jobs near me? Next, I suggest that you search through some call center agent job listings. You can easily apply online. This work is great because a lot of it is entry-level and requires no experience.

Try to find call center vacancies that offer limited but flexible working hours. It might be a good idea to discuss all of this with you’re partner too. You can then figure out a battle plan together.

Are you a stay-at-home parent who wants to make money? What do you think is the hardest part of remote call center work for a stay-home parent?
