I’ve had various jobs where employers will organize employee-of-the-month style competitions. It may be this or another style of competitive leader board.

You might get 50% off car insurance if you are distributing posters for an insurance company, for instance. I once received a gift voucher for a fast-food outlet for my leaflet distribution work in the past.
Are there any other incentives for distribution work?
There are other examples too. What kind of bonuses can I earn from distribution work? If you are distributing flyers and posters for a music venue then they might reward you.
This will probably be with free tickets to see an act or two. Fingers crossed that it’s someone epic like The Black Keys. If it’s not then you can always give the tickets to a friend. Swings and roundabouts.
Catalog distributors can sometimes get a free bonus product. This might be a product of your choice from the items that the catalog sells.
It’s the client’s way of saying thank you if you rise above their expectations. Of course, this will be on top of the cash that you are already earning from your catalog distribution work.
Will bonus freebies be relevant to me as a distributor?
If you are a manly man (like me) then it may disappoint you to receive a bonus gift coupon for a nail salon. Some of these bonus offers will be irrelevant to you as a leaflet distributor.
Hopefully, you can find something that’s more your cup of tea. I find that it depends entirely on what kind of content you are distributing.
Is catalog distribution a commission only job?
Although, I should warn you that a lot of catalog and brochure distribution work specifically will pay you with sales commission only. This means that they won’t pay you an hourly base rate of pay. It kind of sucks, but does it really?
You will normally get a percentage cut of the sale of each product you sell for your catalog distribution work. In some ways, this means you have more control over your take-home pay per day. It works like this:
- Distribute catalogs
- Collect catalogs and sales sheet
- Earn commission from the purchases made

How difficult is it to work on sales commission only?
It really cranks up the pressure for you to do well when distributing catalogs due to it being set up this way. Some people thrive under stress while others aren’t so lucky. You need to decide what kind of person you are … or at least want to be.
Don’t panic. You can teach yourself the skills necessary to be successful at a commission-based distribution job. Your sales skills need to be at a decent level if you want to succeed and most importantly earn commission.
Will my earnings be reliable as a catalog distributor?
A commission only distribution job means not earning a consistent income. I work for myself from home so I know this feeling all too well. If you don’t make a sale and earn commission from it then how are you going to put food on the table?
The money that is coming will be extremely sporadic. This is true if you are lucky enough to earn any commission at all.
This can be very disconcerting because it will mean that you need to be very careful how you spend money. It’s sort of similar to the divide between self-employed people and workers under regular employment.
You have to take far more responsibility for yourself when you rely on bonus commission for payment. I can definitely understand how this isn’t for everyone.
I know that it seems there are more cons than pros here but that’s not necessarily true. Certain people are really well suited to commission-based distribution work.

I know from experience that there is lots of money circulating around the distribution industry. There is no reason why flyer distribution companies shouldn’t be generous.
Which distribution employers give out bonus payments? Lots of them, as it turns out. This forces their hand to be competitive with their employee wages and bonuses anyway. This is down to the extremely high amount of other rival leaflet distribution employers.
If a flyer distributor is earning peanuts then they can move to a different distribution company. Someone else will pay them a fair wage if their current employer won’t.
