Who doesn’t like some extra incentives for their hard grind? There is a chance that you may have been paying attention to my other posts about distribution work. If so, then you already know that the base pay for a flyer and catalog distribution job can be quite lucrative. This is true if you take the right steps.

However, what about the bonuses? The cherry on top of the cake, as it were. It’s not just about earning hard cash from commission either. Your employer may throw in some surprise treats as well such as:

  • free samples
  • gift vouchers
  • coupons
  • discounts
  • other freebies

I will go into a lot more detail about this later on. Here’s something interesting. Some businesses experience an increase of over 8.5% in sales due to leaflet distribution campaigns.

The fact that distribution marketing is this successful will mean a domino effect will occur. Allow me to explain. The flyer distribution companies will be in higher demand because of this statistic. If they are popular then that ultimately means they are making more money.

You may have already guessed where I’m going with this. If they are making big money then that means at least some of it will go to you, the leaflet distributor. This will be in the form of conventional pay or sometimes even a bonus.

Did that unnecessarily long-winded, rambling statement of mine all make sense? I hope so, because it’s good news for you, the worker.

How does a lowly leaflet distributor like myself get some of this sweet, sweet additional bonus pay?” I will show you right now.

Together, let’s run through all those extra goodies you will get from flyer and catalog distribution work. You can achieve all this just for going that extra mile. I will also explain why and how you can get your mitts on bonuses and sales commission.

How do distributors earn bonus payments?

That is the question and also why were all here, right? You may earn commission or bonus payments as a flyer distributor if you hit targets. You can be rewarded for going above and beyond in your distribution work in other ways too.

It can be anything that your distribution employer or client deems worthy of bonus payment. Here’s hoping your boss isn’t Ebenezer Scrooge himself. “Bah humbug!” and all that.

It might the case that you finish your work faster than expected. You may even complete more work than you’re originally supposed to.

Your catalog distribution job might depend on the customer buying something. If this is true then your employer will normally compensate you with commission. You will get this for obtaining individual sales or leads. It’s wise to improve your communication skills in order to master this craft.

You’re not just running down the clock waiting for home time. Although, some people might typically do this if you were working at any other entry-level job.

You can even choose to go it alone. Advertise your distributing services using websites like Fiverr in order to bring in more work. This is a popular site and it should increase your earnings significantly.

How are sales commission & bonuses calculated?

I’ve had various jobs where employers will organize employee-of-the-month style competitions. It may be this or another style of competitive leader board.

You might be in competition with your colleagues for the reward of a bonus. This is effective for the employer because it encourages workers to push each other forward.

I get that this sounds like über micro-management but you can really receive the benefits if you prove yourself.

I have discovered that a lot of distribution work revolves around receiving the money you deserve. Always keep this in mind. You get what you give (or reap what you sow) when it comes to a flyer or catalog distribution job. Pick the figure of speech that suits you best, I don’t mind which one.

You might be in a situation where you are handing out flyers for an event or establishment. Your employer will sometimes pay you a bonus depending on how many people attend the venue. They can work out the calculations of bonus payments by numbering the flyers that you distribute to punters.

It helps to be at least a little bit silver-tongued for this kind of hand-to-hand flyer distribution. This will boost your admission numbers as well as your bonus if you are good at persuading people.

Do flyer & catalog distributors get paid an hourly wage?

Some flyer distributions companies only have an interest in getting their clients exposure, not sales. They will likely pay the distributor an hourly wage without a bonus. This will be the case no matter how well the business does from its flyer distribution campaign.

This client believes that the advertising they are getting is worth the money that they are paying out. They were never asking for someone to sell their product or service in the first place. They just want the publicity and they know that it will all work out in the end to grow their business.

Do distributors get any bonus freebies?

You may receive free products or services from the client that you are distributing for as an added bonus. You might get some free incentives from your distribution employer too. “What sort of free stuff will I get?” you might ask.

The bonus rewards will include free or discounted products and services. For instance, if you work really hard you might get a £20 gift voucher. This may hypothetically be from the supermarket whose leaflets you deliver.

You may even receive a free sample of a product related to what the leaflets that you are distributing. It will likely be something relevant to the industry of the client. I’ve received gift cards like these in the past.

You might get 50% off car insurance if you are distributing posters for an insurance company, for instance. I once received a gift voucher for a fast-food outlet for my leaflet distribution work in the past.

Are there any other incentives for distribution work?

There are other examples too. What kind of bonuses can I earn from distribution work? If you are distributing flyers and posters for a music venue then they might reward you.

This will probably be with free tickets to see an act or two. Fingers crossed that it’s someone epic like The Black Keys. If it’s not then you can always give the tickets to a friend. Swings and roundabouts.

Catalog distributors can sometimes get a free bonus product. This might be a product of your choice from the items that the catalog sells.

It’s the client’s way of saying thank you if you rise above their expectations. Of course, this will be on top of the cash that you are already earning from your catalog distribution work.

Will bonus freebies be relevant to me as a distributor?

If you are a manly man (like me) then it may disappoint you to receive a bonus gift coupon for a nail salon. Some of these bonus offers will be irrelevant to you as a leaflet distributor.

Hopefully, you can find something that’s more your cup of tea. I find that it depends entirely on what kind of content you are distributing.

Is catalog distribution a commission only job?

Although, I should warn you that a lot of catalog and brochure distribution work specifically will pay you with sales commission only. This means that they won’t pay you an hourly base rate of pay. It kind of sucks, but does it really?

You will normally get a percentage cut of the sale of each product you sell for your catalog distribution work. In some ways, this means you have more control over your take-home pay per day. It works like this:

  1. Distribute catalogs
  2. Collect catalogs and sales sheet
  3. Earn commission from the purchases made

How difficult is it to work on sales commission only?

It really cranks up the pressure for you to do well when distributing catalogs due to it being set up this way. Some people thrive under stress while others aren’t so lucky. You need to decide what kind of person you are … or at least want to be.

Don’t panic. You can teach yourself the skills necessary to be successful at a commission-based distribution job. Your sales skills need to be at a decent level if you want to succeed and most importantly earn commission.

Will my earnings be reliable as a catalog distributor?

A commission only distribution job means not earning a consistent income. I work for myself from home so I know this feeling all too well. If you don’t make a sale and earn commission from it then how are you going to put food on the table?

The money that is coming will be extremely sporadic. This is true if you are lucky enough to earn any commission at all.

This can be very disconcerting because it will mean that you need to be very careful how you spend money. It’s sort of similar to the divide between self-employed people and workers under regular employment.

You have to take far more responsibility for yourself when you rely on bonus commission for payment. I can definitely understand how this isn’t for everyone.

I know that it seems there are more cons than pros here but that’s not necessarily true. Certain people are really well suited to commission-based distribution work.

Why do distribution employers give out bonuses?

I know from experience that there is lots of money circulating around the distribution industry. There is no reason why flyer distribution companies shouldn’t be generous.

Which distribution employers give out bonus payments? Lots of them, as it turns out. This forces their hand to be competitive with their employee wages and bonuses anyway. This is down to the extremely high amount of other rival leaflet distribution employers.

If a flyer distributor is earning peanuts then they can move to a different distribution company. Someone else will pay them a fair wage if their current employer won’t.
