Baking Chocolate Chip Cookies Part 3: Substitutions & Storage

In my opinion, it’s better to bake in large batches. You can then store it appropriately for future eating. Perhaps consider using multiples of each ingredient or a larger quantity than initially stated in the recipe.

I firmly believe that it is better to have too much rather than too little when it comes to food. You can always find solutions for storage if you have leftovers. Then again, my eyes are typically bigger than my stomach so I guess I would say all this.

Switching out chocolate chips

I actually made these a second time around. The difference being that I swapped out chocolate chips for sultanas or raisins. This turned out to work great. You could even try using nuts and other dried fruit.

The more chocolate chip cookies, the merrier

During the second attempt, I also used twice as many ingredients as before. I wanted to make a larger batch that would last longer. Ultimately, I would end up with double the number of cookies.

Although, I made a special exception with the number of chocolate chips. In actuality, I thought that there were more than enough chips the first time around. You will need to experiment through practice. This way you can see what you need to give and what you need to take away.

The freezing & refrigeration of chocolate chip cookies

As far as storage goes, you can keep these cookies in a cool, dark place. You could cover them up after putting the cookies on a plate or bowl. If you are running short on anything like this then consider checking out Fitz & Floyd for your dining ware needs.

On the other hand, try freezing them so they last longer. If you do choose to put them in the freezer, you can always reheat them.

Do this for a couple of minutes after they are taken out. They will need to be fully defrosted in preparation, of course. If you have leftover cookie dough that hasn’t been baked yet then this is perfectly fine. You can refrigerate this for later use.

This is helpful as the cold temperature can make the texture of the dough more pliable as well. If you are going to use this method, I recommend using it all up within a couple of weeks.

Doing it by the book

Apart from a few minor modifications, I stuck pretty faithfully to this recipe just here. This was the first time I had made chocolate chip cookies in a long time. For this reason, I didn’t want to take too many chances by overly improvising.

These are really satisfying homemade treats that you and your household can snack on over the week. You can also get most of the ingredients for this recipe at an affordable price. This makes it great for families that want to eat well but are currently on a tight budget.

Do you have any decent storage ideas for chocolate chip cookies? What do you personally think would be a good substitution for chocolate chips and why?
